5 Ways to Enjoy Your Backyard in Cold Weather

When we think about winter, staying inside or bundling up tend to be the only two options that come directly to mind — particularly if you live in an area that drops to low temperatures. That can be a bummer if you’re coming out of warmer months when you were able to fully enjoy your backyard.

The good news is, with a few minor additions to your yard and a little creativity, you can still enjoy your outdoor space through the cold months.

Cover it up

There’s nothing more comforting than sitting with a cup of coffee or tea and watching the rain or light snow fall. A chill in the air paired with the warmth of your mug can immediately transport you to the most joyous season of the year.

Before it begins to rain on your parade, consider investing in a roof or pergola to cover your patio area. And if you live in a state where there’s heavy snowfall, consider enclosing your patio with temporary vinyl or plastic enclosures to keep the cold out.

Fire it up

If the weather is warm enough in your part of the world to forego the enclosure, but still chilly enough to keep you from spending a length of time in your outdoor space, your best bet is to heat it up.

Portable fire pits and heat lamps are the perfect option because you can move them around your yard or patio with little effort and you can tuck them away in the garage when the months begin to warm up again.

Cozy it up

Turn your outdoor space into a mini haven. Decorate your couch or chairs with soft, weather-proof pillows and cushions. If your space is covered, invest in a large, plush rug to place under your coffee table. If it doubles as storage, throw a few blankets in there for easy access when you’d like to wrap yourself up in a hurry.

Light it up

Because we lose light much earlier in the winter months, consider your lighting options so that you can maximize your outdoor experience. Vintage lamp posts, string lights, and even tiki torches are great options to light up your space. For an eco-friendly option, consider solar-charged lights and save on your energy bill.

Grill up a feast

You might not be able to play a good game of bocce ball or whip out the grill, but if you have an outdoor kitchen, you can definitely continue to serve up some steaks.

Weatherproof outdoor kitchen cabinets make outdoor kitchens made with Werever materials an all-season novelty. Made from marine-grade HDPE, these cabinets will ensure your outdoor kitchen remains protected against the elements. Hurricane-proof and moisture-proof, you’ll be able to cook outside no matter the weather.

If you do foresee using your outdoor kitchen year-round, make sure it’s covered by an awning or overhang. This ensures any appliances you have also remained protected. What’s more, you can keep your outdoor kitchen compact so it’s ultra-cozy come wintertime and super affordable for you.
